The Give Kids a Chance Act was unanimously passed in the House of Representatives and the Energy and Commerce Committee last year with 235 bipartisan cosponsors. The Act was also included in Congress’ end-of-year funding bill before it was dropped.
The Give Kids a Chance Act of 2025 seeks to accelerate the development of novel treatments for children with cancer and rare diseases with the following programs.
Give Kids a Chance Act Combination Therapies: Provides the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with additional authority to require pediatric cancer trials for combination therapies. Combinations of new targeted cancer therapies have been demonstrated to be the best chance of new cures for kids with cancer.
Reauthorization of Rare Pediatric Priority Review Voucher Program through FY 2029
Innovation in Pediatric Drugs Act: Provides FDA the same authority to enforce against companies that do not complete their pediatric study requirements as FDA has to enforce against companies that do not complete other post market study requirements.
RARE Act: Clarification that Orphan Drug Exclusivity applies to the approved indication rather than the potentially broader designation.
The Give Kids a Chance Act also seeks to improve health outcomes with a program to collect fees from the Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN) to support OPTN’s operations, and to establish an FDA office in an Abraham Accord country.
