GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT
HR 3433, S 2897
Saving kids’ lives at zero cost to taxpayers

KIDS SHOULD HAVE THE SAME CHANCE AS ADULTS TO BEAT CANCER
Cancer scientists tell us that new combinations of cancer drugs are the best way to find new cures for untreatable cancers. For that reason, from 2020 to 2023, the FDA approved 40 combinations of cancer drugs for adults. However during that time, the FDA only approved 2 combinations of cancer drugs for kids.
A PRIMER ON WHY NEW COMBINATIONS OF CANCER DRUGS ARE SO IMPORTANT
THE GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT PROVIDES FOR NEW COMBINATIONS OF CANCER DRUGS FOR KIDS
The Give Kids a Chance Act authorizes the FDA to direct companies to add to their required pediatric studies of their new cancer drugs a second drug that they already own or that is a generic.
The Give Kids a Chance Act is an amendment to the Pediatric Research Equity Act and the RACE for Children Act.
THE GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT WAS PASSED IN THE HOUSE IN THE 117TH CONGRESS, AND MORE RECENTLY WAS PASSED IN THE ENERGY AND COMMERCE HEALTH SUBCOMMITTEE IN THE 118TH CONGRESS
The Give Kids a Chance Act was included in last Congress’ FDA PDUFA bill, HR 7667, which passed with overwhelming bipartisan support of 392 to 28. However, the Senate companion to the FDA PDUFA bill was passed “clean,” stripped of riders including the Give Kids a Chance Act.
In March 2024, the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee passed the Give Kids a Chance Act again.
THE GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT COSTS TAXPAYERS ZERO
The Give Kids a Chance Act is a bill ready to be passed into law. It is consensus language. It costs taxpayers nothing. It will save kids’ lives by enabling new and curative combinations of cancer therapies to be developed for kids.
